Yesterday, as 224215152 and I were walking back to the condo, Neil Gaiman passes us. He was wearing sunglasses, so there was no eye contact, but I waved like an idiot. Or half-muppet-hands.
Today, I was walking through the hotel lobby, and there was a guy who looked really familiar, that I thought was one of syntart's art friends. There was eye contact, so I nodded and smiled, and got a nod back, so I assumed I had remembered the face correctly. About three minutes later, I was outside, and realized: it was Matt Groening.
And later ... guess who I interviewed?
He was very nice and seemed smart and stuff. I don't think I sputtered or anything!
ETA: Oh, I also got a signed book from Ellen Kuschner, who is super pleasant, and who promised an interview around October or November. |

Our second issue of New! Weekly! Content! went up yesterday, including my interview with the super-cool Lucy Snyder ( las on this here intarwebs). There's also a poll thingy to pick favorite covers for a 2008 calendar.
Exciting things are in the works for San Diego Comic-Con coverage in a few weeks. (Or am I just excited because it's vacation time? You'll have to check the site in two weeks to find out!) |

Dear Editor of Time.com,
A roll is a small cake of bread.
A role is a character played by an actor.
Bruce Willis is not reprising a roll.
Thanks, liz
Bruce Willis reprises his roll for a fourth time as John McClane in Live Free or Die Hard. |

| Potato Leek soup, by request |
[Dec. 6th, 2006|02:29 pm] |
INGREDIENTS 5 lb. your favorite or most handy type of boilin' potatoes 2-3 leeks 1 med. white onion some carrots some sort of dairy salt 'n' peppa half a stick of butter or some olive oil or margarine or whatever --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clean and thinly slice the leeks (just the white parts). Chop or dice or mince the onion, depending on how chunky a soupystewything you want. Put these things in a large pot with the butter/oil and sautee until everything is soft. Chuck in sliced or chopped carrots, a couple-three handfuls or so. Chuck in cubed boilin' potatoes (I like yukon gold or red -- I don't peel the red ones). Add enough water to barely cover. Stir in salt 'n' peppa. Put a lid on. Randomly check for potato doneness (sometimes the carrots take longer than the potatoes). When the potatoes are done, take the lid off, and let it boil/simmer so some of the water goes away. Apply potato masher to whatever consistency you want, if you want. Stir in some sort of dairy (seriously -- anything from milk to heavy cream to sour cream works, or none of the above if dairy kills you). Correct the seasoning. Serve with cheese or bacon or scallions or whatever. It gets weird sometimes if you put the cheese in the pot, so I recommend doing that on a bowl-by-bowl basis. You can also do it without leeks. Or with vegetable or chicken or beef stock instead of water. You can put in leftover pot roast or roast beef or whatever in, too. It's an ideal base for experimenting! I bet no leeks + curry would be pretty tasty, too. |

| Sequential Tart |
[Sep. 1st, 2006|12:52 pm] |
If you know any ladies who might be interested in contributing to Sequential Tart, please point them here. In addition to comics, manga, and anime, we're also looking for contributors interested in genre books and television. Tart does not pay for articles, but we do send out review copies of comics, books, and DVDs, and provide press passes to conventions.
More info from Marcia, our Editor-in-Chief:
---- Tart Recruitment Drive September 1, 2006
Are you a woman who loves comics and wants to say so? Then Sequential Tart wants you!
Sequential Tart is an all-female written and produced Internet magazine that has been established since 1998. With a new issue produced every month, we feature articles, interviews, reviews, and recommendations focussed on the medium of comics.
Originally founded by a group of online friends who found that women's views were under-represented in the comics press, Sequential Tart has expanded over the years and at last count has featured over a hundred different contributors since it first appeared on the 'net. We have won awards for our publication and have hosted booths and panels at comic book conventions.
We're always looking for new contributors with something to say about comics and manga. If you've always wanted to interview your favourite creators, review your favourite comics or speak your mind on an aspect of the medium that interests you, then get in touch with Editor-In-Chief Marcia Allass at recruit@sequentialtart.com to find out more.
No HTML coding skills or previous publishing experience is required — established editors and writers are always available to provide with advice, contacts and brainstorming. All you need are ideas and the desire to express them!

| Behold! |
[Aug. 2nd, 2006|07:23 pm] |
To add to my paradoxical yuppie, punk rock snobbery, I attended a cheese tasting on Sunday. There were 10 cheeses, seven of which were to my liking (to various degrees). Unsurprisingly, I didn't like either goat or the blue. The first goat was edible, but only because it was covered in crushed green, pink, and black pepper, and the goatiness was less noticable -- Pepper Chevre/Goat/Vermont. The second goat was totally nasty, and I gave it to wbenetti -- Honey Goat/Belgium. The blue wasn't as bad as some I've tried, but I could really only have a tiny piece (the rest, of course, went to wbenetti -- St. Pete's Select Blue/Raw Cow/Minnesota. I've starred the ones I purchased.
* Mascarpone -- Cow/Vermont -- (not technically a cheese) is quite tasty; I had it with pasta and peas for dinner on Monday. Very buttery.
d'Affinois -- Cow/France -- was pretty decent. Compared to other bries, it was quite good. I don't like eating rinds; the texture dichotomy bugs the crap out of me. (I didn't give my rinds to wbenetti, as that seems weird.)
* Belletoile -- Cow/France/triple creme -- Yummy! I ate some with an apple for breakfast. It wasn't as good as it was at the store -- could either be because of the godawful antibiotic copper taste in my mouth, because it wasn't quite at room temperature, or because it sat in the fridge.
* Tomme de Savoie -- Raw Cow/France -- Very gentle flavor, possibly my favorite of the night. (Had some in a salad on Monday.)
* Manchego -- Raw Sheep/Spain -- Okay, did I say the Savoie was my favorite? This one was soooo good. It's sitting in the fridge waiting to be eaten, but I'm trying to limit myself to .25/lb of cheese or less a day, and the Belletoile for breakfast was .21 (before I cut off the rind).
Prima Donna -- Cow/Holland/Gouda -- 14-month aged. Delicious! I'm not sure why I didn't buy this one. It's a harder cheese than the previous due to its age. A stronger flavor than the other cows, but very smooth. ( syntart bought and made us sample a 4-year aged gouda that knocked my socks off!)
Muenster -- Cow/France -- Wow, I had no idea that American muenster was fake. It smelled like butt, but I didn't smell it until after I'd had a bite. I wouldn't want to eat it by itself; it's a strong enough (albeit tasty) flavor that it'd get too rich for me real quick. |

Mostly, I am astounded the FDA let this drug through. Pleasantly so, of course. Maybe it's a sign they're getting their heads out of their asses. |

For you guys who skipped out on the Jonathan Coulton show to see X-Men, you totally missed out. He rocked a variety of socks (except for 224215152, who wasn't wearing any ... socks). His closing band had a few fine songs as well, including one about the demise of a urinal cake.
We told him we were going to kidnap him if he kept writing catchy songs, and he laughed as though we were joking. More fool he! |

Two wooden platform beds, dark brown finish, from West Elm. Still in boxes.
Purple velvet couch and chair-and-a-half -- been slightly used as a scratching post, so you'd have to enjoy slipcovers. I don't.
Wardrobe thingy -- pretty scratched 'n stuff, and I think it's particle board, but if you're desperate. ::shrug::
Coffee table, wrought iron and glass, circular.
Streetfighter 2 arcade system (yeah, the giant box thing); plus extra game board; ask theantichrist for details. I think safetypup may want this?
Giant 7' tall dinosaur. I think sailormom mentioned putting it in her yard or something? o.O
Pictures can likely be gotten. |

| Energy drink tour 2006 |
[Apr. 14th, 2006|11:27 am] |
My first week at the new job went pretty well, although getting up 5-6 hours earlier than before is hard. So, I've been making a tour of the energy drinks available in the cafeteria.
ROCKST*R Sugar free -- Sucks. Tastes like a combination of Red Bull and some kind of candy. I could only drink a fifth or so of the can before I had to chuck it. See, I told you I wasn't a rock star. :(
SoBe Adrenaline Rush - Sucked a little less, but I still couldn't finish the whole can. It also has 140 calories in a can, which is a little much. At that rate, I'd be better off with my girly coffee beverage.
Tab energy - 5 calories. It's pink! But it tastes entirely like Splenda, and the Splenda taste sticks in my mouth for hours. I can finish a can, but I don't like it.
Perhaps I should just consider the caffeinated candies and lotions available, instead.
And last, for your entertainment ... what does the Easter Bunny do the other 364 days of the year? KICKS ASS. (via brikat)
Is it time for happy hour tapas yet?? |
